Securing Migrant Children and Young People's belonging, identity and safety

Education for asylum seeking children
Starting in summer 2024, we began research, in partnership with the Public Law Project and Garden Court Chambers. Based on our own experiences, we felt there were systemic issues with children in asylum accommodation facing significant delays accessing school places, with the allocation of asylum accommodation policy, short notice dispersals and the presumption of the availability of school places at the root of the issue.

We carried out surveys of organisations seeking their casework experiences advocating for children and gathered case studies of children's experiences of education delays, culminating in a report which was released in February 2025.

We are keen to continue to gather data and consider how this issue can be addressed. Find out more about the project and take action below.
